The Leftist
As I entered the class room at SIMC, without making a conscious decision I sat on the benches on the left hand side of the lecture room. For the next lecture we had to go to some other class, there also the same thing happened; I sat on the benches on the left hand side. This went on from lecture to lecture and from day to day, until one day when I took notice of this fact that I had developed a comfort zone of being a leftist. Further I found that I almost sat on more or less the same bench.
Anyways this is not the whole point. The matter of the fact is that we happen to make a comfort zone around us and then stay in that for as long as possible. Breaking away from it is like the nastiest thing that can happen to us. But I have realized that we miss on a lot of things that can only be seen if we change our perspective and dare to break away.
In my case, I gradually changed my seat to the center of the class and then went to the right hand side. Also I tried being a front bencher and sometime being the last bencher. I was amazed by the various perspectives that I got from all these new places. I could see only the teacher and may be one or two students around me when I sat on the front bench, an astoundingly weird experience. But it was the back bench experience which was more enticing. I could count a number of student sleeping, few of them chatting (by writing on their notebooks or whispering), some students pretending to listen to the teacher, some really listening. Also I could also see the teacher when I felt like. All this I could never have noticed by sitting on the left side and in middle of the class, my usual comfort zone. So, now I sit according to my disposition, keeping in mind the view I want have.
